Nailed to the Cross
There are names that get placed on us, by people, by pain, by seasons we didn’t choose. Too much. Not enough. Broken. Rejected. Forgotten. Failure. Sometimes the labels aren’t even spoken out loud; they form quietly through disappointment, trauma, sin, or shame. Over time, we can start living like those words are our identity.
But Colossians 2:14 tells us something life-changing: God took the record of charges against us and nailed it to the cross.
At the cross, Christ removed our debt and the power of condemnation. The accuser’s voice does not get the final word (Revelation 12:10). In Christ, there is now no condemnation (Romans 8:1).
So when you take your labels and “nail them to the cross,” you’re choosing agreement with God’s verdict. You are turning from lies and receiving truth. God renews our minds by His Word (Romans 12:2), and He teaches us to take thoughts captive to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).
You are not what shame says. You are who God says you are, redeemed and made new in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
And here’s the exchange:
When the labels come off, God’s truth goes on.
You are not what happened to you.
You are not what you did.
You are not what someone called you.
You are who God says you are, redeemed, cleansed, loved, and free.
Reflection Questions
- What labels have I been carrying that Jesus already paid for?
- Where have I been agreeing with a name God never gave me?
- What truth from God’s Word replaces that label?
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for the cross. Thank You that You canceled every charge against me and took it away by nailing it to the cross. I release every false label I’ve worn, every name rooted in shame, fear, rejection, trauma, or accusation. I renounce agreement with lies, and I receive Your truth. Teach me to live from my identity in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
