The Windows of Our Soul

When you see an abandoned house, you may notice the windows are often full of dirt, dust, and maybe even cracked or broken. These neglected windows tell a story one of time, wear, and exposure to the elements. Just as these windows reflect the state of the house, our eyes reflect the condition of our soul.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:22-23 (KJV), “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness.” This reminds us that what we allow into our eyes and mind affects the purity and clarity of our soul.

Our soul wounds can have many layers layers so deep that one may think there is no way to be free or live a normal life. Trauma, pain, rejection, and disappointments can cloud our soul, much like dirt covering a window. Over time, if not cleansed, our perspective becomes distorted, and we may feel lost, unseen, and unworthy.

Often, people try to hide who they really are for fear that no one will want to be around them. We may seek validation through relationships, material possessions, or even distractions like food, shopping, or social media. Yet, none of these things truly heal the wounds or bring clarity to our soul.

The truth is, the most important relationship we need is with Jesus. He is the only one who can truly fill the voids we try so hard to patch with temporary fixes. Psalm 34:18 (NIV) tells us, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” No matter how shattered we feel, Jesus is always near, ready to restore and renew us.

All we need to do is call on Jesus, ask Him into our hearts, and allow His light to cleanse the windows of our soul. Ezekiel 36:26 (KJV) says, “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.” When we surrender to Him, He washes away the grime of our past, removes the cracks of our brokenness, and restores us with His love and grace.

Today, take a moment to examine the windows of your soul. Are they clear, allowing the light of Jesus to shine through? Or are they clouded with hurt, pain, and distractions? No matter where you find yourself, Jesus is ready to make all things new.

Let us pray:

“Lord, I invite You to cleanse the windows of my soul. Remove the layers of pain, fear, and rejection, and replace them with Your love and truth. I ask You to be my Lord and Savior, to guide my steps, and to fill me with Your peace. Help me to focus on You and find my worth in You alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

May your soul be a window that radiates the light and love of Christ!
